IBM’s Watson Health announced that the oncology program developed by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center would be rolled out in 21 hospitals across China. This initial rollout at the 21 hospitals marks only the beginning of a long-term partnership initiated by IBM’s Chinese partner, Hangzhou General Healthcare.

Bodimetrics has established a dedicated digital health platform capable of non-invasively monitoring users’ electrocardiogram (ECG), heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2, recorded via photoplethysmography), and body temperature. Certain government agencies, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Military Health System, have begun adopting these devices and providing reimbursement for their use.

Triwellness, an employee health company, has recently added Ensono, an IT firm with over 700 employees based in Chicago, to its client roster. All Ensono employees can now access Triwellness’s WellnessConnect portable healthcare services via their smartphones, tablets, and personal computers, including health screenings and biometric scans. Users can consult professional health coaches by phone or email, and the platform also features a social component that allows users to share their successes with friends for mutual motivation.


PharmMedCo and Healthcom


PharmMedCo, a pharmaceutical supply company, and Healthcom, a medical technology firm, have jointly developed a service called CareLinkConnect. This service transforms patients’ homes into medical or emergency care centers. Through a self-setup process, patients receive a free mobile phone button that enables them to connect with home care providers, caregivers, and medical service centers at any time.


Kinvey and Redox


App development firm Kinvey and EHR integration company Redox have jointly launched a peer-to-peer initiative to accelerate digital health innovation, aiming to address challenges related to importing EHR data into mobile devices, web platforms, and various smart applications. The two companies stated that this initiative will accelerate the process by 80%.

SEIU 775 and Retrofit


Employees of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 775 Benefits Group in Washington State have been enrolled in Retrofit, a web- and mobile-based weight-loss platform. According to Retrofit’s data, 25% of SEIU 775 employees are classified as having morbid obesity, 17% are obese, and an additional 32% are overweight. Members will receive an activity tracker, a Wi-Fi-enabled scale, an app with tracking and reminder features along with a dashboard, instructor-led sessions involving expert interaction, and social support through an online community.

Anthem Blue Cross


Anthem Blue Cross has enabled numerous community organizations, such as Black Women for Wellness, the Valley Jewish Community Center, and Solera Health, to launch a Diabetes Prevention Program that includes healthy lifestyle education and weekly classes on diabetes prevention and management. This one-year initiative will be integrated with Solera’s online community and its digital Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), allowing eligible Anthem Blue Cross members to choose the services best suited to their needs. The digital DPP is primarily provided by HealthSlate, Retrofit, Blue Mesa Health, and Lark.


Anthem Blue Cross also announced the launch of a Spanish-language-focused e-pharmacy program on its LiveHealth Online platform.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center


Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles has launched two new technologies as part of its recently established accelerator program. Jim Laur, Vice President of Law and Technology at Cedars-Sinai, announced in an interview with MobiHealthNews that 11 pioneering companies have already partnered with these technologies, with two additional companies having recently signed on. The two technologies are named Well and Grace. Well enables patients to communicate directly with the hospital via text message, while Grace facilitates matters related to the passing of loved ones through an online platform.

Health Prize Technologies has partnered with Walgreens to develop a medication adherence platform on its pharmacy chain website. This initiative will benefit patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, enabling them to access well-known prescription medications. AstraZeneca and Quintiles


AstraZeneca has partnered with Quintiles to conduct a new clinical trial assessing medication adherence in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study aims to determine how medication reminders can help improve symptoms among patients with varying levels of adherence. Previous research has shown that COPD patients using combination therapy experienced a 3.9-fold increase on average per year. Furthermore, COPD patients with lower medication adherence generally incur higher healthcare costs.
