On September 14, the MIIT Haiwei·Zhongdi Health and Medical Data Research Center, established under the leadership of the SME Growth Center of the Electronic Science and Technology Information Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (hereinafter referred to as “MIIT Information Institute”) in Chongqing, was officially unveiled. The center is scheduled to commence pilot operations in Banan District by the end of this year, and aims to cover 80% of primary healthcare institutions across the municipality by the end of next year, thereby achieving data sharing.

It is reported that the center was jointly established by three parties: the SME Growth Center of the MIIT Information Institute, the Xinhaiwei Information Center of the MIIT Information Institute, and Chongqing Zhongdi Medical Information Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Zhongdi Medical”).

“This center will be dedicated to carrying out research and development in the processing and analysis of big data in medical imaging,” said Liu Liqun, Director of the SME Growth Center at the Information Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. He noted that healthcare big data encompasses not only personal health but also a wide range of areas, including pharmaceutical services, disease prevention and control, health security, food safety, and wellness and healthcare. Extracting valuable information from such data holds significant importance for disease diagnosis, treatment planning, epidemic prediction, medical research, and analysis of drug side effects.

“Currently, our data research center covers more than 500 primary healthcare institutions in the city. By the end of next year, the coverage rate will reach 80%. Through data sharing, we are promoting the informatization construction of tiered diagnosis and treatment on a regional basis,” said Yang Ce, Deputy General Manager of Zhongdi Medical.

Leveraging the medical service platform of the Data Research Center, primary healthcare institutions within the city can connect to their respective district-level platforms and interact with Tier 1 and Tier 2 hospitals in the district. This enables remote consultations and resident health management, while also providing access to medical data services such as personal health records and electronic medical records. In the future, residents will be able to receive initial consultations and treatment for minor illnesses at nearby primary healthcare institutions; if further treatment is required, they will be referred to Tier 2 hospitals within the district or Tier 1 hospitals within the city.

“The center is expected to begin pilot operations in Banan by the end of this year, covering all medical institutions across the city within three years,” Yang Ce told reporters.
