Building on the first-generation Tang Daifu’s capabilities in automatic logging, WeChat communication, blood glucose management guidance, and personalized insurance services, the second-generation Tang Daifu, dubbed the “Gold Edition,” features comprehensive hardware upgrades: it is equipped with Wi-Fi and China Unicom 3G connectivity, a higher-capacity battery for extended endurance, and a high-performance quad-core processor. Additionally, 100 product details—including the screen, casing, and storage—have been improved and optimized.
The Tang Dafu II utilizes gold electrode test strips, with stability, accuracy, batch-to-batch consistency, and resistance to drug interference all reaching industry-leading standards. It has undergone rigorous internal testing and validation at the professional medical grade. Regarding this, Wu Bo stated, “Accuracy is the cornerstone of big data and internet-based services. Only through precision can we help patients manage their blood glucose levels scientifically and efficiently.”
Furthermore, the Tang Daifu Gen 2 strives for ultimate user experience. For instance, it employs cross-hair positioning design and 0.7 μl micro-sampling technology to minimize pain. The test strip port, user interface, packaging, and casing have all been completely redesigned for greater simplicity and ease of use.
With guaranteed hardware performance and accuracy, Tang Daifu Gen 2 has enlisted numerous domestic endocrinology experts to prominently launch three major physician services, providing scientific guidance and support for patients in blood glucose management.
First is patient education: physicians can provide patients with relevant educational articles on the glucometer, and also conduct live Q&A sessions in the “Famous Doctors Online” section of the Tang Daifu WeChat official account—these ongoing interactions will help patients enhance their awareness of blood glucose control.
Next is the health report: Tang Daifu Generation II will regularly organize patients' blood glucose data into easy-to-read and understandable reports, accompanied by doctors' comments, to help patients manage their own health conditions. Finally, there is online consultation: doctors provide diagnostic and treatment responses in various forms such as text and voice messages based on patients' health records and relevant monitoring data. Building upon these three core services, Tang Daifu plans to introduce more in-depth personalized paid medical services in the future.
Moreover, the second-generation Tang Daifu integrates with Tencent’s physician app, “Teng Ai Doctor,” enabling physicians to gain deeper insights into patients through WeChat communication, telephone follow-ups, and online consultations. This facilitates the creation of professional and comprehensive health records, allows for scientific patient stratification and management, and significantly enhances the efficiency of doctor-patient communication.
At the press conference, Zhang Wei and Wu Bo, Vice Presidents of DXY, announced that DXY’s high-quality resources on its professional online healthcare platform would provide robust support for the physician services associated with the second-generation Tang Daifu product. Tencent will collaborate with DXY to recruit 100 specialized physicians, primarily in the field of endocrinology, to participate in the crowd-testing of the second-generation Tang Daifu.
In addition, Tencent and DXY will continue to explore areas such as physician services, big data analytics, and the accumulation of medical resources, working together to build an open collaborative platform. In the future, they will launch the “Renowned Physicians Online Initiative.” The inaugural cohort includes distinguished physicians such as Wang Ying, Zhang Zheng, Wang Wei, Wang Xi, and Liu Guanghui from prestigious medical institutions including Tsinghua University and Peking Union Medical College Hospital. The “Renowned Physicians Online Initiative” aims to help outstanding physicians establish their personal brands and leverage their professional expertise, while connecting them with a vast patient base to deliver precise, personalized interventions and treatments for chronic diseases. Wu Bo stated that the “Renowned Physicians Online Initiative” welcomes participation from physicians across all sectors, joining hands to benefit patients.
In addition, Professor Ji Linong, Director of the Department of Endocrinology at Peking University International Hospital, and Ding Ke, Vice President of Tencent, held a signing ceremony to formalize their future collaboration on chronic disease management between Peking University International Hospital and Tang Daifu.
Thus, Tencent has achieved simultaneous progress on both the patient and physician fronts. With the launch of the new generation of Tang Daifu (Glucose Doctor) II, Tencent has established a model for blood glucose management education and online consultation for patients. Furthermore, through collaborations with DXY and Peking University International Hospital, Tencent has made concrete strides in engaging physicians.
Wu Bo stated that, building on the steady progress in hardware capabilities, software services, and physician collaborations, the company will continue to work with its partners to explore innovative models for “Internet Plus” chronic disease management.
