Partnering with Top-Tier Medical Teams to Explore Innovative Healthcare Models

At the press conference, Professor Ji Linong, Director of the Department of Endocrinology at Peking University International Hospital, and Ding Ke, Vice President of Tencent, held a signing ceremony to formalize their future collaboration on chronic disease management. In addition to leveraging Tencent’s big data engine for chronic disease research at Peking University International Hospital, Professor Ji’s team will also participate in Tang Daifu’s patient education initiatives for diabetes, employing innovative approaches such as live online streaming to enhance patients’ awareness of blood glucose control.

Professor Ji Linong believes that the diagnosis of diabetes has already achieved digitization, with diagnostic references, control targets, and treatment options all relying on data. This data-driven approach to patient care forms the foundation for the growth and development of internet-enabled smart hardware devices such as Tangdaifu (Sugar Doctor). Professor Ji notes that the internet has enhanced the fluidity and richness of information. The innovative service model behind Tangdaifu facilitates smoother and more efficient interactions between doctors and patients.

Ding Ke stated that internet healthcare companies should collaborate with the world’s most elite medical teams to conduct cutting-edge explorations and build the most advanced healthcare service system for patients worldwide.

Integrated Hardware and Software Solutions Provide Patients with Three Major Blood Glucose Management Services

With the launch of the second-generation Tang Daifu, dubbed the “Gold Edition,” a high-performance smart blood glucose meter has entered the public eye: it features Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, a battery with enhanced endurance, and a high-performance quad-core processor, while more than 100 product details—including the screen, casing, and storage—have been improved and optimized. The second-generation Tang Daifu utilizes gold-electrode test strips, achieving industry-leading standards in stability, accuracy, lot-to-lot consistency, and resistance to drug interference, all rigorously tested and validated through professional medical-grade internal assessments. Commenting on this, Wu Bo stated, “Accuracy is the cornerstone of big data and internet-based services; only with precision can we help patients manage their blood glucose scientifically and efficiently.”

With guaranteed hardware performance and accuracy, Tang Daifu Gen 2 has engaged numerous endocrinology experts in China to prominently launch three major physician services, providing scientific guidance and support for patients in blood glucose management.

First is patient education: physicians can provide patients with relevant popular science articles via the glucose meter, and also conduct live Q&A sessions on the “Renowned Doctors Online” section of the Tang Daifu WeChat official account. These continuous interactions will help patients enhance their awareness of blood glucose management. Second is health reporting: Tang Daifu II will regularly compile patients’ blood glucose data into easy-to-read and understandable reports, accompanied by physicians’ comments, to help patients monitor their health status. Finally, there is online consultation: physicians provide diagnostic and treatment responses in various formats, including text and voice messages, based on patients’ health records and relevant monitoring data. Building upon these three core services, Tang Daifu plans to introduce more in-depth, personalized paid diagnostic and treatment services in the future.

Moreover, the second-generation Tang Daifu is integrated with “Teng Ai Doctor,” a physician-focused app launched by Tencent. By leveraging multiple communication channels—including WeChat messaging, telephone follow-ups, and online Q&A—it helps physicians gain deeper insights into their patients, create comprehensive and detailed health records, and enable scientific stratification and management of diverse patient groups, thereby substantially improving the efficiency of doctor–patient communication.

Co-launched the "Renowned Doctors Online Program" with DXY

At the press conference, Zhang Wei and Wu Bo, Vice Presidents of DXY.cn, announced that DXY.cn’s high-quality resources on its professional online medical platform would provide robust support for the physician services associated with the second-generation Tang Daifu product. Tencent will collaborate with DXY.cn to recruit 100 specialist physicians, primarily in the field of endocrinology, to participate in the beta testing of the second-generation Tang Daifu. Furthermore, Tencent and DXY.cn will continue to explore areas such as physician services, big data analytics, and the accumulation of medical resources, working together to build an open cooperative platform. In the future, they will launch the “Renowned Physicians Online Initiative.” The inaugural cohort includes prominent physicians such as Wang Ying, Zhang Zheng, Wang Wei, Wang Xi, and Liu Guanghui from prestigious medical institutions like Tsinghua University and Peking Union Medical College Hospital. The “Renowned Physicians Online Initiative” aims to help outstanding physicians establish their personal brands and leverage their professional expertise, while connecting them with a vast patient base to deliver precise, personalized interventions and treatment for chronic diseases. Wu Bo stated that the “Renowned Physicians Online Initiative” welcomes participation from physicians across all sectors, joining hands to benefit patients.

With this, Tencent has achieved simultaneous progress on both the patient and physician fronts. By launching the new version of Tangdaifu II, Tencent established a model for blood glucose control education and online consultations for patients. Through collaborations with DXY and Peking University International Hospital, Tencent has also made concrete strides on the physician side.

“With steady progress in hardware capabilities, software services, and physician collaborations, Wu Bo stated that the company will continue to work with its partners to explore innovative models for Internet-plus chronic disease management.”
