In recent years, with the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and data technologies, a wide array of smart health devices has proliferated in the market. However, issues such as data “fragmentation” have also come to light, not only impairing consumer experience but also hindering further industry development. Against this backdrop, the deep integration of big data technology with the smart health sector has become a widely recognized trend among both government authorities and industry stakeholders.

In this field, Alibaba Health is clearly poised to make significant strides. On October 19, the “Smart Care Initiative,” jointly launched by Alibaba Health and dozens of smart medical and health device brands, was officially inaugurated in Beijing. This initiative aims to foster the deep integration of smart health devices with internet technologies such as big data, thereby providing consumers with more professional and personalized medical and healthcare services, and is expected to drive a transformative shift in the smart health device industry.
At the press conference, Alibaba Health announced a collaboration with Alibaba Intelligence and nearly 20 renowned smart health device and service providers, including Sinocare, Haier Medical, Pocket Glucose Doctor, Yuwell, Roche, Bayer Ascensia, and Omron. This partnership aims to provide consumers with health devices such as smart blood glucose meters, smart blood pressure monitors, smart thermometers, and smart body fat scales, covering healthcare management needs for nearly every family member. The “Smart Care Initiative” is the second major benefit offered by Alibaba Health to “Double 11” shoppers this month; just ten days prior, Alibaba Health had launched its “Nourish China” brand strategy in Hangzhou.
“There are numerous smart products on the market, and no shortage of those offering remote medical services. However, a product like the ‘Smart Care Initiative,’ which nearly covers every family member and provides comprehensive value-added smart services, has yet to emerge,” said Jiang Cheng, General Manager of the Health Platform Division at AliHealth, in an interview with reporters.
At the press conference, Jiang Zheng introduced the “Smart Care Initiative,” which leverages mobile internet and data technologies to upload consumers’ health data collected via smart health devices to a platform through GPRS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and other connectivity methods. The system automatically generates health trend reports based on this data and integrates follow-up continuous professional medical and health management services. By combining smart monitoring devices with comprehensive chronic disease or health management programs, Alibaba Health provides consumers with tools to maintain their personal electronic health records and delivers timely interventions through backend medical and health management services, thereby enhancing consumers’ ability to manage their own health.
Specifically, consumers continuously upload health data automatically to the Alibaba Health Service Platform via smart devices in accordance with standard protocols (recommended frequency). This data is analyzed and transformed into health trend reports, which are then provided to both consumers and healthcare service providers. Subsequently, healthcare providers will deliver standardized services and a range of value-added services based on the consumer’s test results. These services include ongoing guidance and consultation from professional healthcare personnel, such as dietitians and physicians, delivered via the internet or telephone.
As the official partner of AliHealth, Alibaba Intelligence has provided the key technology for this “Smart Care Initiative”—IoT services. Gu Zhicheng, General Manager of the Alibaba Intelligence Product Division under Alibaba Group’s OS Business Group, stated that Alibaba Intelligence is China’s leading IoT service platform in terms of shipment volume, offering a comprehensive “device-cloud-mobile” solution that currently covers over 100,000 devices from more than 1,000 brands. Through this collaboration with AliHealth, both parties will engage in deep cooperation in areas such as big data mining and personal health management. By collecting and visualizing user data on physical fitness, exercise expenditure, and nutritional intake, and by integrating with other Alibaba Intelligence smart home appliances, the partnership will connect products and services across Tmall Supermarket, Miao Fresh, and Taobao, delivering a smarter and novel healthy lifestyle to users.
“Haier Medical has always been focused on the field of smart healthcare, continuously researching, developing, and producing leading home-based intelligent medical devices. In addition, the company collaborates with multiple renowned institutions to build a comprehensive C+ health management platform for the internet era. By leveraging richer data to create precise user profiles, it provides tailored health solutions for users. These efforts align perfectly with Alibaba Health’s ‘Smart Care Initiative,’ which focuses on addressing the critical pain points in Chinese families’ general health and wellness, and aims to construct a mobile healthcare ecosystem driven by intelligent devices and health management services.” At the press conference, Yang Xin, COO of Haier Medical Technology Co., Ltd., explained the reasons behind Haier’s participation in the ‘Smart Care Initiative.’
From the perspective of Du Chengjin, General Manager of the Consumer Business Division at Sinocare, the partnership with AliHealth fully embodies the “data + service” model. Continuous glucose monitoring data uploaded to the cloud generates comprehensive reports, enabling nutritionists and physicians on the backend to devise effective and rational intervention plans. This interaction among patients, between patients and healthcare providers, and between data and real-world scenarios will realize the vision of delivering health management services tailored to different stakeholders and patients at various stages of their care journey.
Observers have pointed out that for companies in the fields of smart healthcare and health devices, the “Smart Care Initiative” not only helps them expand their existing markets through collaboration but also enables industry integration under the Alibaba Health brand. By achieving faster and more efficient integration of smart devices with medical services, and leveraging data feedback from internet technologies to optimize their industrial structures, these companies can concentrate high-quality resources on enhancing product quality and driving transformation and upgrading. For medical and health service institutions, the “Smart Care Initiative” not only facilitates access to precise user segments but also helps improve the efficiency of medical services through big data analytics tools. This allows them to focus their resources more intensively on improving the quality of medical and health services, thereby transitioning from a volume-based service model to a value-based healthcare delivery model.
“Looking ahead, a smart health device that is not connected to healthcare services is an isolated island incapable of creating value for users,” said Wu Yongming, Chairman of Alibaba Health, in an interview with reporters. “We hope to empower more smart health devices and services with intelligence through platforms such as Alibaba Health’s ‘Smart Care Initiative,’ thereby providing users with better health services and experiences.”
