On October 27, 2016, the “2016 National ‘Internet + Healthcare’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference,” jointly organized by the Chinese Health Information Association and the Sichuan Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission, was successfully held at the Century City International Convention Center in Chengdu. Under the theme “Integration and Innovation, Shared Benefits for All,” the conference implemented the spirit of the National Health and Wellness Conference, deeply advanced the “Internet +” and “Healthy China” strategies, and further promoted pilot reforms of the healthcare system. More than 300 internet healthcare companies, over 800 medical institutions, and more than 60 domestic and international experts and scholars from across China gathered to participate in this significant event.

At the conference, the Sichuan Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission held the launch ceremony for the provincial internet health service platform, “Bashu Kuaiyi,” and issued the first batch of operational licenses for “Internet Hospitals,” with West China Second University Hospital receiving this distinction. As a deep partner in the informatization construction of West China Second University Hospital, Wanfang Development also served as a co-organizer of the event. Liu Gelin, General Manager; the CTO of XinTong WangYi, a holding subsidiary; and the CTO of ODG (USA) delivered keynote speeches on behalf of Wanfang Development at the conference.

Over the past two years, Wanfang has been continuously striving to build the most comprehensive ecosystem and industrial chain for general health. By forging strategic partnerships with leading internet operators, its “Smart Medical Consortium” service platform effectively addresses the societal challenges of difficult and costly access to medical care for the general public, thereby achieving a win-win outcome for patients, physicians, and hospitals.

Since 2006, Wanfang Group has extended its reach into the healthcare sector by acquiring full ownership of Beijing Hexie Rehabilitation Hospital. In 2015, Wanfang Development acquired equity stakes or controlling interests in four internet healthcare companies: Chengdu Yihuan Medical Technology Co., Ltd., Sichuan Zhixiang Network Co., Ltd., Chengdu Xintong NetEase Medical Technology Development Co., Ltd., and Beijing Yintian Information Service Co., Ltd.

Wanfang Development’s medical ecosystem network layout encompasses healthcare IT (including social security informatization, regional healthcare informatization, public health informatization, electronic medical records, HIS, CIS, LIS, PACS, health insurance cost control, and pharmacy informatization) and online healthcare (cloud hospitals), covering nearly the entire lifecycle of medical services. Meanwhile, Wanfang Development has established a healthcare sector framework centered on “tiered diagnosis and treatment, pharmaceutical B2C, remote consultation, government services, hospital informatization, and rehabilitation and elderly care,” thereby building an integrated online-offline internet healthcare ecosystem.

In the future, Wanfang Development will deepen its presence in the fields of stomatology, maternal and child health, and rehabilitation, while building vertical platforms for tiered diagnosis and treatment, telemedicine, and specialized training. Specifically, Wanfang Development will comprehensively integrate various resources of medical institutions within the region, enabling internet-based delivery of medical services provided by regional hospitals. This will achieve informatization across the entire clinical workflow, networked expert consultations, personalized online pharmaceutical purchases, health management, and chronic disease prevention and control, thereby establishing an informatized medical service platform model that supports both social medical insurance and commercial insurance.

Meanwhile, Wanfang Development is also focusing on the development and application of VR/AR technologies as advanced medical technologies to enhance the competitiveness of its existing platform.
