“Westworld” depicts a theme park in a future world where the wealthy can indulge in pleasure or wanton killing, targeting AI entities that are nearly indistinguishable from real humans. The TV series is currently airing. However, human-like robots will soon become a reality.
Far Eastern Manufacturing Company stated that it can now produce robots nearly indistinguishable from humans in appearance, and the first batch of commercial sex robots will be released next year. Furthermore, these sex robots are equipped with genitalia identical to those of humans and can engage in conversations tailored to users’ preferences.

Jiajia is a humanoid robot modeled after Chinese women, developed by the University of Science and Technology of China.

Kokoro is a humanoid robot showcased at the Tokyo International Robot Exhibition.
This controversial sex robot, developed by Abyss Creation, retails for $15,000 (approximately £12,300). It is expected to sell strongly in markets such as the United States, Japan, and South Korea.
Current robots developed by scientists can already walk, play soccer, or climb stairs normally. In addition, they can engage in artistic creation, such as playing the flute.
The primary driver behind the development of sex robots is that adult sex toys in the United States now sell for as much as $5,000. These devices are equipped with electronic sensors and vibration systems. They also incorporate other technologies, such as heating elements that mimic human body temperature and synthetic voice modules capable of producing sensual sounds.
The first generation of sex robots that comes to mind is RealDolls, produced in the United States. These dolls are extremely expensive but offer a realistic feel and considerable practicality. Nevertheless, they have many limitations, capable only of simple conversations and providing basic vibrational feedback upon touch. As technology continues to advance and new materials become available, sex robots will become increasingly lifelike. For instance, electronic sensors embedded in synthetic skin could enable robots to respond to caresses. Furthermore, with the deepening development of artificial intelligence, sex robots will be able to master more sophisticated conversational skills.
Sex robots were first researched by Abyss Creations 20 years ago, and Abyss Creations has remained a leader in this field. Although research into sex robots has a relatively short history, it has developed rapidly. The Second International Conference on Sex Robots was held at Goldsmiths, University of London. The third conference was originally scheduled to take place in Malaysia, but the Kuala Lumpur Police Chief ordered its cancellation, deeming the event indecent.
We cannot deny that these sex robots sound rather cold, yet their impact on society is indeed indelible. We have all personally witnessed how interpersonal relationships have undergone profound changes with the rapid development of the internet, smartphones, and social media. These technological advancements have enabled us to make many friends through electronic screens. It is reasonable to believe that as technology continues to advance, our relationships with robots will also undergo significant transformations.
Films depicting relationships between robots, from Ira Levin’s novel The Stepford Wives to the movies Lars and the Real Girl and Her, as well as the recently hit TV series Westworld, all explore romantic relationships developing between humans and robots.
Matt McMullen, the founder of Abyss Creation, stated that future sex robots would provide users with an ultimate experience. He added, “I hope users can gain not only physical satisfaction from sex robots but also psychological fulfillment.”

Naturally, there are also those who hold opposing views. Kathleen Richardson, a professor at De Montfort University, launched a campaign against sex robots, arguing that such technology will only lead us to further neglect human interaction in the real world. The development of sex robots involves linking emotionally inert machines with the user’s own emotions. By continuing to encourage the development of these emotionless entities, we are effectively encouraging people to treat unfeeling robots as if they were human beings.
Moreover, the rapid development of sex robots poses challenges to future human relationships. As technology advances at an accelerating pace, it becomes possible to imbue robots with human-like emotions and personalities.
Research over the past few decades has also shown that the primary reasons people fall in love can be simply summarized. For instance, individuals are highly prone to forming romantic attachments with those who share significant similarities in certain aspects, such as educational background, life attitudes, or hobbies. These factors are, in turn, readily replicable by artificial intelligence.
Furthermore, another factor that makes people prone to falling in love is the perception of deep affection from others. Mimicking such affection is also remarkably simple; researchers need only design appropriate software, enabling robots to easily convey messages of adoration and thereby elicit emotional responses from humans.
In the UK, approximately 2.5 million women purchase sex toys every day. If using sexual aids is not considered infidelity, why is engaging in sexual activity with a sex robot regarded as such?
Furthermore, sex robots offer significant benefits to societal development. For instance, their use encourages greater openness and frankness regarding sexual issues. Sex robots can effectively serve as sexual behavior experts; individuals experiencing psychological challenges related to sexual relationships may find relief simply by acquiring such a robot. Additionally, sex robots help users alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation. They provide emotional and sexual satisfaction for those who lack care or suffer from loneliness.
Thousands of people around the world are enduring the torment of loneliness, as they are unloved and have few friends. There are many reasons for this situation, such as being overly shy and lacking social skills, or having an unattractive appearance and lacking self-confidence.
This situation may change as Abyss Creations releases the world’s first commercial sex robots.
