“For just one yuan a day, you can enjoy proactive, round-the-clock, and attentive family health services.” On December 24, 2016, at the 2016 China Family Health Forum, leaders from eight departments of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, along with more than 1,000 health and family planning administrators from across China, jointly witnessed the launch of the “WeDoctor Health Plan.”
With the launch of China’s first ACO model, WeDoctor has completed its closed-loop value chain for internet healthcare.According to the Chairman of WeDoctorCEOLiao Jieyuan introduced that, leveraging its three-tier service guarantee capabilities, WeDoctor’s “Health Plan” provides health accounts to individual, family, and corporate members,HMO、ACOThree types of services, forming a “3+3+3” accountable care delivery system.
The Health Savings Account, jointly developed by WeDoctor and several well-known domestic banks, provides users with payment, medical care, and financial services. Since its launch on December 12, 2016, it has attracted over one million users within just 12 days. WeDoctor’s HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) is a health management service centered on responsible physicians; it currently offers a basic service package at RMB 1 per day, with 4.6 million enrolled users covering 1.2 million households. Building upon the WeDoctor HMO services, WeDoctor’s ACO (Accountable Care Organization) adds comprehensive health insurance with full reimbursement throughout the entire care process. The monthly base fee is RMB 500, enabling full reimbursement of medical expenses beyond those covered by social security, with maximum coverage for more than 60 critical illnesses reaching up to RMB 1 million.
Upon enrollment in the health plan, WeDoctor will establish exclusive health records and personalized health promotion plans for members based on genetic testing and customized physical examinations. The assigned physician team will provide members with 24/7 health consultations and medical guidance. For members requiring offline medical care, the assigned physicians will also offer comprehensive services, including appointment scheduling, clinical visits, referrals, and multidisciplinary consultations.
To support the implementation of its health initiatives, WeDoctor has established a three-tier service assurance system over the past six years: it has connected with 2,400 key partner hospitals across China, assembled a network of high-quality medical resources comprising over 260,000 expert physicians and 7,200 online specialist teams; jointly built internet hospitals with offline physical medical institutions have been launched in 17 provinces and municipalities, with the Wuzhen Internet Hospital—operational for one year—already handling more than 31,000 outpatient visits per day; and the first “4S” General Practice Center has been established in Hangzhou, with plans to build 100 regional general practice centers within three years.
WeDoctor Health Plan Services Are Now Available for Purchase on the WeDoctor PlatformDesigned for families, this health service offers targeted medical and healthcare plans for children, office workers, the elderly, and pregnant women. The annual fee is RMB 365, averaging just RMB 1 per day. According to 2015 data, the average per capita outpatient expenditure in China exceeded RMB 1,300. With the widespread adoption of the WeDoctor Health Plan, the proactive and continuous health management provided by family doctors can help members mitigate disease risks, reduce medical expenses, and improve overall health outcomes.
China currently has 110 million patients with diabetes and 330 million with hypertension, presenting a severe challenge for the prevention and control of chronic diseases. The National Health and Wellness Conference emphasized that China’s health sector must shift its focus from “disease treatment” to “health promotion.” Liao Jieyuan stated, “The WeDoctor Health Plan aligns with the national strategy of ‘proactive health.’ By providing continuous, proactive family doctor services to 400 million Chinese households, WeDoctor aims to become the health gatekeeper for hundreds of millions of families across China.”
