According to survey statistics from the International Society of Andrology in Traditional Chinese Medicine, among China’s more than 300 million adult males, approximately 150 million suffer from prostatic diseases, 100 million experience sexual dysfunction, and at least 50 million men of reproductive age are affected by infertility.

Among men aged 20–40, 20% suffer from prostatitis and 16% from reproductive tract infections; among men over 40, 50% are affected by sexual dysfunction and benign prostatic hyperplasia. According to data analysis from the Xunyi Wenyao website, online consultation rates for andrology rank first among all specialties except obstetrics and pediatrics. It is projected that by 2020, the market share of consumer spending on male disease testing in China will exceed RMB 400 billion.

Currently, the number of patients seeking medical care for andrological diseases is increasing by 3% annually. Although the number of andrology patients is enormous,However, due to deceptive and fraudulent practices by offline men’s health clinics and their dominance of online search portals, it is nearly impossible to find reliable and valuable information or platforms in the field of men’s health.General practice-oriented mobile health platforms have failed to maintain adequate quality control over response accuracy, resulting in inconsistent service quality, a prevalence of templated responses, and a poor user experience.

In tertiary hospitals, andrology falls under the Department of Urology and has not received the attention it deserves. Moreover, the majority of men do not proactively seek medical care due to concerns about privacy and a reluctance to consult physicians.Jiaonan aims to launch the first reliable men’s health consultation app free from any affiliation with the Putian medical network, seeking to address the awkwardness often associated with men’s health issues. VCBeat conducted an exclusive interview with Jiaonan’s founder, Zhang Yang, for this follow-up report.

An Exploration of a Business Model

Zhang Yang is a serial entrepreneur,Currently, the team also has another men's health app called "Jieke," which focuses on guiding healthy lifestyle habits, such as quitting smoking, abstaining from alcohol, and stopping masturbation. Jieke currently has over 2 million users, with more than one million user-generated content (UGC) posts related to men's health in its community.Possesses a profound understanding of men’s health issues and user psychology; previously conceptualized and released the short video “Big Data Report on Masturbation,” which garnered over 10 million views across all platforms.

Medical Partner Xiang Bo, former Senior Vice President of Haodf.com and Vice President of the China Pharmaceutical Commerce Association. With extensive medical resources, he can facilitate rapid implementation for subsequent testing centers and hospitals. Operations Partner Wang Jie has eight years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, having served at AstraZeneca, a Fortune 500 multinational pharmaceutical company, and Mammy Knows, a mobile healthcare platform for mothers and infants.

During its commercialization exploration, Jieke also ventured into men’s fashion e-commerce, CPS-based traffic redirection, and health supplement promotions, among other initiatives. However, the results fell short of expectations. Subsequently, Zhang Yang’s team concluded that the shorter the commercial pathway, the better; otherwise, the cumulative effect of layer-by-layer conversion rates would yield suboptimal outcomes. This holds true unless the product can secure top-tier traffic volumes and maintain high user engagement. With a large user base, even modest conversion rates can sustain monetization.

Therefore, Jiaonan opted for this approach with a shorter commercialization pathway, directly targeting the core issue., if you have any questions, there is no need to seek help in the community; simply consult a reputable doctor directly.

Furthermore, Jieke boasts a large base of precisely targeted users. While it could achieve stable monetization by directly running medical advertisements, Zhang Yang stated that he is unwilling to do so, as this would contradict the core values of his team.Jiaonan aims to create a reliable men’s health app free from the influence of the “Putian system,” thereby promoting standardization in the men’s health market.

Market Entry Through Trust

We often see small advertisements for men’s health clinics in offline settings, and similar promoted listings frequently appear in Baidu search results. While this is indeed a marketing tactic, it makes it difficult for consumers to discern the authenticity of the information. How does Jiaonan, aiming to become a reliable men’s health consultation app, build trust?

# First, Trusted Physicians, all physicians on the Jiaonan platform are from large Grade 3A hospitals with over five years of clinical experience. The platform avoids blind expansion and rigorously selects doctors who demonstrate strong patient service awareness. Users can freely choose to consult either traditional Chinese medicine or Western medicine practitioners.

Jiaonan ensures the quality of doctors while also overseeing the quality of their responses to patients.Meanwhile, they also established a 7-step response protocol: 1. Necessary greetings; 2. Subjective assessment based on the description; 3. Psychological counseling and reassurance; 4. Explanation of the underlying mechanisms, including the causes of symptoms, potential additional symptoms, and recovery guidance (lifestyle habits, dietary advice, and medication instructions).

5. Answer each of the patient’s questions point by point, without evasion; 6. Specify under what circumstances the patient should visit a hospital, which department to consult, and what necessary examinations should be performed; 7. Closing remarks. To verify this user experience, the editor specifically submitted a question for consultation and received the following response, which was quite satisfactory.

Additionally,The Jiaonan Platform also features a trustworthy encyclopedia of andrology., organized by anatomical region and originally authored by multiple chief physicians, it demystifies common men’s health issues, case studies, and examination costs by presenting them in a transparent and structured manner. This allows users to gain clear insights at a glance and avoid being misled. The app also features health management tools that enable one-click addition of male enhancement plans, as well as the flexibility to customize additional health regimens. It automatically provides reminders and monitoring to ensure adherence, and generates 7-day and 30-day completion reports, empowering you to become a stronger man.

Dispatch Model Ensures Physician Income

Given that Jiaonan imposes such high demands on doctors, why would doctors choose to join its platform? The primary consideration is economic income. Currently, in the testing phase, each doctor on the platform earns a monthly income of approximately RMB 5,000.Jiaonan’s consultation model is as simple as Uber: patients first choose between traditional Chinese medicine or Western medicine, pay a 58-yuan consultation fee, and submit their questions. Jiaonan then assigns the order to a physician, ensuring that every doctor receives orders and generates income.

Why the Dispatch Model Can Be Used? Zhang Yang explained: 1. Andrological diseases are highly standardized and of low complexity; physicians with clinical experience can handle nearly all cases, and60% of Male Issues Are Psychological Factors, what is needed is psychological counseling and clarification of doubts. For patients with severe conditions, we directly recommend that they visit a hospital. 2. After being satisfied with the initial service, users can continue to repurchase services from the same doctor. Order assignment aims to provide every doctor with an equal opportunity.

Reducing Inflated Costs in Men's Health

Zhang Yang introduced that Jiaonan's business model is currently quite clear, mainly consisting of four stages and milestones.

Phase IMainly through reliable paid consultations, at 58 yuan per order.Currently, 20 doctors have been initially onboarded in the Chongqing region, enabling each physician to reach full daily patient capacity, thereby ensuring stable cash flow and revenue. Operational strategies will be adjusted based on data insights, with a gradual expansion of the medical team.

Phase II, with stable cash flow and patient volume,Establish the Jiaonan Testing Center and Jiaonan Clinic in Chongqing. Maintain a consistent style and tone, while strictly ensuring quality and reliable service. By integrating into the processes of male health examination and treatment, we leverage our core values to reduce the inflated costs associated with men's health care. Currently, private male health hospitals charge high fees due to intense homogenized competition and persistently high promotional expenses, which drive patient acquisition costs up to several thousand yuan per individual. Consequently, these institutions resort to overtreatment to generate profits.

Phase III: After validating the online-to-offline revenue model in Chongqing, replicate it across other cities nationwide to achieve scalable profitability.

In the fourth phase, once implementation has been rolled out in most cities across China, the brand effect will naturally drive the standardization of the entire andrology market. Jiaonan is a branded enterprise in the andrology industry.

Last year, Zhang Yang’s team secured millions in angel-round investment from Cyborg Capital Group.
