Recently, Mingyi Zhudao, China’s first mobile medical surgery platform, held a press conference in Shanghai under the theme “This Warm Winter, Let Love Return Home.” At the event, Mingyi Zhudao launched China’s first surgical liability insurance designed to protect physicians’ practice, filling a market gap for individual medical malpractice insurance for doctors.
In recent years, the protection of physicians’ rights and interests has become a focal point across various sectors. On one hand, the vast majority of traditional medical liability insurance policies only accept healthcare institutions as policyholders, with the insured party being the institution itself, making it difficult to provide coverage for individual physicians. On the other hand, against the backdrop of encouraging physicians to practice at multiple sites in primary care settings, promoting privately-run healthcare, and the growing trend of internet-based medical services, ensuring medical safety has become the paramount concern for patients, physicians, healthcare institutions, and government authorities. Effective insurance coverage is undoubtedly one of the optimal solutions to this issue.
In this context, "Mingyi Zhudao" has seized the opportunity to launch a surgical liability insurance policy tailored for individual physicians. This move not only aligns with historical trends but also addresses the long-standing issue of surgeons having no access to insurance coverage for procedures performed outside their affiliated hospitals. According to Su Shu, founder of "Mingyi Zhudao," unlike traditional medical liability insurance that targets healthcare institutions, "Mingyi Zhudao" Surgical Liability Insurance is the first in China to provide personal liability coverage for doctors on a per-procedure basis, spanning the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases, with coverage limits of up to RMB 1 million. This innovative medical liability insurance is specifically designed for scenarios involving external consultations and multi-site practice by surgeons, offering the following key advantages:
First, model innovation: this is currently the first medical liability insurance product in China to cover physicians’ external consultations and multi-site practice. The policyholder is “Mingyi Zhudao,” and the insured is the individual surgeon. The basic underwriting conditions require that the physician holds a valid practicing license and that the hospital where the surgery is performed is a legally accredited medical institution.
Second, comprehensive coverage is provided, with a maximum personal injury liability limit of RMB 1 million per incident, and compensation for mental distress up to RMB 50,000 per incident is also included within the scope of insurance.
Third, enrollment is simple, adopting a per-procedure insurance model. Policies can be purchased as late as three hours before surgery, with support for bulk pre-purchase and staggered use. The “Renowned Surgeon-Led Surgery” service has also launched a dedicated WeChat purchase channel to facilitate mobile enrollment.
Fourth, claims are processed rapidly with simplified procedures, and a “consultation invitation letter” is not required.
This product is provided by Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of China, Ltd., Jiangsu Branch. The scope of insurance coverage shall be subject to the terms stipulated in the “Ping An Physician Liability Insurance” policy.
At the insurance product launch, Mingyi Zhudao also initiated a public welfare campaign themed “This Warm Winter, Let Love Return Home,” calling on doctors to donate charitable surgeries in their hometowns during the Spring Festival holiday. Mingyi Zhudao provides insurance coverage and business liaison support to help alleviate the suffering of impoverished patients in regions with underdeveloped medical resources.
