iFLYTEK and Peking Union Medical College Establish Joint Medical AI Research Center

On April 18, iFlytek and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation framework agreement in Beijing. Concurrently, iFlytek and the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & School of Basic Medicine of Peking Union Medical College entered into a strategic cooperation agreement.. The two parties announced the joint establishment of the “Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences–iFLYTEK Medical Artificial Intelligence Research Center” and held an unveiling ceremony for the center, jointly promoting the application of artificial intelligence in basic medical research and clinical practice.

In accordance with the agreement, both parties shall establish a high-level communication mechanism and form a joint working group based on the principles of “equality and mutual benefit, complementary advantages, and win-win cooperation,” committing to collaborate on the innovative integration and development of artificial intelligence and medicine, as well as the promotion of applied achievements: IIt involves the joint establishment of the “Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences–iFLYTEK Medical Artificial Intelligence Research Center” by both parties, to jointly explore the future development of medicine and artificial intelligence;


Second,Both parties will jointly promote the application of artificial intelligence technology in medical education, explore new models of medical teaching, and actively investigate new approaches to cultivating interdisciplinary talents in medicine and artificial intelligence.


Third,Both parties will gradually advance the pilot implementation of artificial intelligence research outcomes at hospitals affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, and expand their application nationwide when appropriate.

 

In his address, President Cao Xuetao stated that medical artificial intelligence offers significant advantages in accelerating major breakthroughs in medical science and technology, popularizing medical education, and enhancing the efficiency and capacity of healthcare services. Furthermore, it holds substantial importance for resolving the challenges of healthcare reform, addressing imbalances in the allocation of medical resources, and achieving the goal of tiered diagnosis and treatment.


President Cao Xuetao stated that the collaboration between the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, and iFlytek represents a strategic alliance of two industry leaders. By leveraging their respective strengths, both parties will cooperate in the fields of medical science and technology, education, and healthcare, jointly committing to the integrated development of artificial intelligence and medical innovation, as well as the promotion of applied achievements.

 

Liu Qingfeng stated that iFlytek holds globally leading advantages in multiple intelligent speech technologies, and its artificial intelligence technologies have repeatedly won international accolades under the continuous breakthroughs of the “iFlytek Super Brain” initiative.Liu Qingfeng believes that innovation in technical algorithms must be integrated with industry-specific big data, and furthermore, requires guidance from industry experts.


Therefore, the strategic signing between iFlytek and Peking Union Medical College (Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences) as well as the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences) will facilitate better integration of medical resources with artificial intelligence technology for both parties in the future.

 

Liu Qingfeng stated,In addition to targeting source innovation in medical artificial intelligence, iFlytek will further share industrial resources with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College to improve the current AI industry ecosystem. Furthermore, leveraging its years of experience in integrating “industry, academia, research, and application,” iFlytek will jointly establish a Medical Artificial Intelligence Research Center with the institution.

 

In the future, the two parties will deepen their cooperation in three key areas: exploring medical education, implementing medical artificial intelligence (AI) applications at hospitals affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, and jointly operating the “Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences–iFLYTEK Medical Artificial Intelligence Research Center.” Through these efforts, they aim to extensively advance research and practical applications of medical AI, leverage AI to support healthcare initiatives, and build China’s independent “Smart Healthcare” system using world-leading technologies and medical expertise.
