With consumption upgrading, people's demand for medical health has significantly increased, and their requirements for quality have become more stringent. This has led to an increasingly prominent contradiction between the supply and demand of high-quality medical resources in China. In the context of a surge in external market demand, the integration of the internet and the healthcare industry has gained an excellent opportunity.
At the Medical Sub-forum of the 2017 China “Internet+” Digital Economy Summit held on April 20, Wang Shaojun, Deputy General Manager of Tencent Tengai Medical, delivered a speech titled “Empowering Healthcare, Enhancing Service Value.” He pointed out that medical practitioners currently face three most pressing challenges: trust, efficiency, and value. In this regard, Ma Huateng also stated during this year’s Two Sessions that, in response to the widespread concern over the authenticity of information in “Internet+ Healthcare,” Tencent aims to create an IP product featuring authoritative content, global recognition, and meticulous professionalism. By leveraging telemedicine and internet information technologies, Tencent seeks to enable more people to consult renowned specialists without having to travel to major cities or go abroad. Currently, some companies have entered the market from various angles, including traffic, resources, and technology. As Tencent, we further hope to build a platform on our social networking and communication channels to serve these healthcare enterprises.

Guided by this strategic approach, Tencent has launched its long-term plan for Tengai Medical. Central to this initiative is Tengai Doctor, which focuses on enhancing efficiency by leveraging capabilities in social networking, payments, and data analytics to help medical practitioners—including individual physicians, physician groups, clinics, and healthcare institutions—build their reputations, improve operational efficiency, and unlock value. Furthermore, Tencent has announced that Tengai Doctor will maintain an open and collaborative stance, forging horizontal partnerships with various enterprises across the healthcare industry to jointly cultivate a mutually beneficial healthcare ecosystem.
Integrated Ecosystem Empowering Healthcare Professionals
Tengai Doctor serves not only as a service platform for physicians but also as a connector within the healthcare ecosystem. Leveraging its robust connectivity and sharing capabilities, Tengai Doctor integrates with health media outlets, physician service platforms, and patient service organizations, fostering three categories of partnerships to continuously empower the medical community.

Tengai Doctor empowers physicians by addressing their most urgent needs.
Among the users of Tengai Doctor, the vast majority are doctors and medical professionals who operate their own or their institution’s WeChat Official Accounts. Through collaborations with platforms such as the Penguin Media Platform, Tiantian Kuaibao, and Medical Realm, Tengai Doctor effectively enhances their personal brand influence. This enables ordinary healthcare providers in real life to become prominent online medical science communicators with hundreds of thousands of followers, thereby significantly increasing the promotion and exposure of medical popularization articles.
Secondly, Tengai Doctor and the physician service platform have established a complementary and mutually reinforcing partnership model that facilitates access to high-quality physician networks and enhances communication and collaboration efficiency. In Tengai Doctor’s earliest collaboration with the China Physician Group Alliance, value returns, patient satisfaction, and sense of achievement from the partnership have been continuously deepened and strengthened. Currently, industry resources such as DXY’s physician community (primarily focused on academic exchange), Haodf Online (primarily focused on online consultation and treatment), and the mobile healthcare app Jiuyi 160 have all achieved significant results in their collaborations with Tengai Doctor.
Furthermore, to facilitate the integration of online and offline medical services provided by its elite physician team and to address the diversification of healthcare scenarios, Tengai Doctor has established a deep strategic partnership with patient service institutions. In collaboration with Distinct HealthCare Group, the initiative encompasses over 100 general practitioners and specialists across its 20 clinics, reaching more than 100,000 patients. Through this partnership, both parties have set new benchmarks for integrated online-offline healthcare services in areas such as patient education, online services, and clinic operations, while also delivering tangible improvements in operational efficiency for Distinct HealthCare.
The Path to Optimized Innovation
Technological advancements have rendered China’s long-established healthcare landscape misaligned with actual demands. Patients seek more convenient and seamless interactions with medical institutions, while physicians desire additional channels to deliver high-quality medical resources. Consequently, internet-enabled empowerment and new healthcare concepts are quietly transforming the service models of the healthcare industry.
Tencent is well aware that the development of “Internet + Healthcare” cannot rely solely on the isolated efforts of individual enterprises. Therefore, it has consistently adhered to the philosophy of openness and mutual benefit, working with partners to promote the sustained and healthy development of the “Internet + Healthcare” ecosystem. From word-of-mouth dissemination and physician collaboration to doctor-patient communication, Teng Ai Doctor is exploring innovative directions for optimizing healthcare services through its core logic of “connectivity,” positioning itself as a pioneer in integrating the medical ecosystem.

After more than a year of dedicated efforts, Tengai Doctor has engaged with over 2,000 physician teams and served more than 3 million patients to date. As it approaches its 2.0 milestone, more partners will join the initiative to break down medical silos and streamline healthcare delivery networks. It is foreseeable that the energy absorbed by the emerging medical ecosystem will grow geometrically and continue to amplify, enabling a broader range of healthcare stakeholders to share in the mutual benefits of this new medical ecosystem.
