Devicare, founded in 2012, has secured a total of $4.9 million (€4.5 million) in investment since its inception. The company is dedicated to developing innovative home-based care technologies for chronic diseases, enabling diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prognostic management, while allowing patients to easily perform these tasks at home.

Home Prevention and Management of Kidney Stones

Currently, Devicare focuses on urinary system diseases. Its two main products include the Lit-Control PH Meter, a sensor-equipped urine sample cup that measures urine pH levels, facilitating patient self-management and prevention of urinary tract diseases.

Accompanying this device are two nutritional supplements, Lit-Control pH Up and Lit-Control pH Down, which help patients with abnormal urinary pH levels restore balance. This product kit is also the world’s first home-use solution for kidney stone prevention. Another medical device, named Tao-Control, is primarily designed to assist patients in taking oral anticoagulants.

Devicare was founded in 2012 through a technology transfer agreement with the University of the Balearic Islands, which granted Rosendo Garganta, the company’s founder, global patent development rights. Since then, he has assembled an engineering team to undertake product development, and within four months, they developed the first-generation product prototype.

“In recent years, our company has grown from a startup idea into a leader in the field of home care for kidney stones,” said Rosendo Garganta, founder and current CEO of Devicare, in an interview.

The Chronic Kidney Disease Market Is Vast

The prevalence of kidney stones in the general population is approximately 10%, making it a chronic condition with a substantial patient burden. The five-year recurrence rate reaches 60%, while the ten-year recurrence rate climbs as high as 80%. With an annual incidence of 1%, kidney stones are also a major cause of chronic kidney disease. Patients often experience severe acute pain, which significantly impairs their quality of life.

According to 2008 data from the World Health Organization, chronic diseases cause 36 million deaths globally each year and consume significant resources within global healthcare systems, such asUrinary tract diseases, such as kidney stones and cystitis, are the second most common reason for medical consultations in Europe.

Given the drain on social costs and the impact on patients’ quality of life caused by chronic diseases, the quality of home care for patients has become a major challenge for the healthcare industry in the 21st century. Devicare believes that remote monitoring devices will play an irreplaceable role in the management of chronic diseases.

Telemedicine Program, Compatible with Devicare Devices

Devicare boasts an innovative team with expertise in the healthcare sector, an innovative business model, patent-protected new technologies, rigorous product management, and rapid time-to-market, thereby meeting the growing demand for chronic disease care.Devicare is now one of the most promising medical startups in Spain.

Rosenda Garganta has now held discussions with the Spanish Association of Life Sciences and Health and the CataloniaBio Medical Technology Committee to explore collaboration in the field of medical technology. He pointed out that the European telemedicine market is expanding, and investors are showing strong enthusiasm, all of which will serve as drivers for Devicare’s growth.

Additionally,Devicare expects that over the next four years, more than half of the patients participating in remote monitoring programs will use its devices.

“We firmly believe that this will certainly pave a new way to improve medical management and quality of life for patients with chronic diseases,” said Xavier Peris, Marketing Director at Devicare, in a statement.
