On May 19, 2017, DXY, the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University (hereinafter referred to as “Xiangya Second Hospital”), and Dana Technology jointly announced an exclusive strategic partnership on AI-assisted diagnosis of dermatological diseases, and unveiled the “AI-Assisted Diagnostic System for Dermatological Diseases” co-developed by the three parties—a product that integrates their respective core strengths and ignites the “spark” of intelligent healthcare.

Mr. Liu Qi, Deputy Inspector of the Hunan Provincial Department of Science and Technology; Mr. Chen Song, Director of the Social Development Division; Mr. Fan Zhenxian, Director of the Science and Education Division of the Hunan Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission; Mr. Li Qihou, Deputy Director of the Scientific Research Department of Central South University; Professor Zhou Zhiguang, Party Secretary of the Second Xiangya Hospital, along with all hospital leadership; as well as representatives from the three collaborating parties, including Professor Lu Qianjin, Director of the Institute of Dermatology and Venereology at Central South University and Director of the Department of Dermatology at the Second Xiangya Hospital; Dr. Zhang Jin, CEO of DXY; and Dr. Jin Lu, Product Director of Dana Technology, attended the press conference and delivered important remarks.

Among the three collaborating parties, The Second Xiangya Hospital possesses extensive clinical dermatology data resources and provides authoritative professional support, led by Professor Lu Qianjin’s expert team, for summarizing dermatological disease characteristics and establishing disease diagnostic models. Dana Technology boasts an industry-leading artificial intelligence technical team and mature image recognition models, achieving AI-assisted diagnosis of skin diseases through learning from vast numbers of medical cases. As a value connector in the healthcare industry, DXY specializes in integrating and coordinating core advantageous resources across various sectors of the healthcare industry to empower physicians, patients, and medical services; in this collaboration, it is deeply involved in the system’s design, development, and operation.

As a phased R&D achievement, Phase I of the “AI-Assisted Diagnostic System for Dermatological Diseases” primarily focuses on AI-assisted diagnosis of skin diseases, with lupus erythematosus as a representative condition.

At the press conference, Professor Lu Qianjin from the Second Xiangya Hospital introduced that, driven by the Clinical Big Data Project of Central South University over the past three years, a substantial collection of dermatological lesion and pathological images has been accumulated through clinical data acquisition and mining of historical records. To further extract the vast amount of data information and disease-specific intrinsic patterns embedded in these image resources, the Second Xiangya Hospital has engaged in deep collaboration with DXY and Dana Technology Company. After several months of technological breakthroughs, a relatively mature artificial intelligence-assisted diagnostic model for lupus erythematosus has been developed. This model can effectively distinguish among various subtypes of lupus erythematosus and its differential diagnoses, achieving an identification accuracy rate exceeding 85%. Furthermore, this technology is expected to rapidly expand to cover a broader and more comprehensive range of dermatological conditions, significantly promoting the overall improvement of diagnosis and treatment standards in dermatology in the future.

“Empowering Physicians” was the keynote of Dr. Zhang Jin, CEO of DXY. “As China’s largest professional social platform for physicians, DXY has been committed to empowering physicians. Over the years, DXY has consistently provided convenient professional communication platforms, medical content, and tools to help physicians enhance their clinical knowledge and diagnostic and treatment capabilities. Amidst the continuous development and changes in technology and the environment, DXY has also been exploring how to leverage new technological means to empower physicians.”

“Dingxiangyuan, in collaboration with the Second Xiangya Hospital and Dana Technology, has developed an AI-assisted diagnostic system for dermatological diseases. This system leverages artificial intelligence to translate the expertise of dermatology specialists into practical support for frontline clinical dermatologists. It integrates Dingxiangyuan’s profound understanding of physicians’ needs and medical internet products, as well as its extensive experience in design, development, and operations. The initiative aims to empower dermatologists by providing support for their disease education and clinical practice.”

“Dana has accumulated extensive expertise in artificial intelligence over many years and has a proven track record of successful applications across multiple fields,” said Jin Lu, Product Director at Dana Technology. “Our independently developed image recognition model has already been deployed in mature applications. Through targeted upgrades and enhancements, we have achieved satisfactory interim results in the intelligent diagnosis of lupus erythematosus. Moving forward, we will conduct in-depth optimization of our core models and algorithms to gradually support the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases and various related differential diagnoses. By implementing continuous system iteration, we aim to rapidly improve both recognition accuracy and the range of identifiable conditions, thereby helping physicians enhance diagnostic efficiency and quality.”

In the near future, the system will also launch patient-facing services to help patients better understand dermatological conditions, while establishing a rational triage pathway and facilitating convenient access to medical care for dermatology. DXY will deepen its collaboration with The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and Dana Technology. Remaining true to its original mission, DXY will continue to forge ahead, striving to achieve greater accomplishments that empower both physicians and patients, ultimately contributing to the overall improvement of healthcare service standards.
