On July 9, 2017, Tianxing Instrument held the 18th Extraordinary Meeting of its Seventh Board of Directors. Pursuant to the Board’s resolution, Tianxing Instrument plans to invest in the construction of a Genomic Big Data Industrial Park in Fujian Province, centered on a big data platform for pathogenic gene information specific to the Chinese population.
This project will leverage the big data from the Chinese Population Pathogenic Gene Database as its core, utilizing technologies such as cloud computing, gene sequencing, gene editing, and artificial intelligence to build an ecosystem encompassing four key sectors: industry, academia, research, and investment. The goal is to establish China’s first complete life science industry cluster.
To facilitate the smooth implementation of project construction, the Company will establish a wholly-owned subsidiary, Fujian Berry Genomics Gene Technology Co., Ltd., and a holding subsidiary, Fujian Berry Genomics Health Management Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Fujian Berry Genomics Health Management”), which will serve as the project entities to operate the entire Gene Big Data Industrial Park project.
VCBeat has learned that the registered capital of both its wholly-owned subsidiary and its controlling subsidiary is RMB 50 million. The controlling subsidiary was jointly established by Tianxing Instruments and Hanxing Jinghe. It is understood that Hanxing Jinghe holds a 30% equity stake.
In line with the development patterns and trends of the gene sequencing industry, the capacity for gene data analysis and processing is increasingly becoming a critical bottleneck constraining the growth of industry participants. The exponential surge in gene sequencing data output, coupled with escalating demands for data security within the sector, makes the establishment of a gene big data processing center an urgent imperative.
Therefore, Berry Genomics proposed the strategic vision of building a big data platform for the Chinese genome several years ago. In August 2015, Berry Genomics partnered with Alibaba Cloud, a cloud computing service provider, to jointly create the “Shenzhou Genomic Data Cloud” project, centered on massive genomic data from the Chinese population, to achieve precise interpretation of individual genomic data.
The “Shenzhou Genomic Data Cloud” project announced its phased achievements in September 2016, unveiling a big data framework for the Chinese population’s genome and its clinical application in breast cancer detection. This time, by establishing a genomic big data center through an industrial park model under the name of Tianxing Instrument, Berry Genomics has demonstrated its determination to build a comprehensive big data infrastructure for the Chinese population.
Furthermore, as the asset restructuring process for its public listing advances, Tianxing Instruments is transitioning from an automotive parts manufacturer to a gene technology company. The establishment of a subsidiary named “XX Berry and Kang” by Tianxing Instruments appears to indicate that this major asset restructuring is nearing completion.
It is reported that the project is currently in the preliminary investment stage, with the first extraordinary general meeting of shareholders scheduled for July 20, 2017, during which relevant proposals will be submitted.
