Yellow Crane Tower, hailed as “the Premier Tower under Heaven,” is situated atop Snake Hill on the south bank of the Yangtze River in Wuchang, Wuhan, Hubei Province. First built in the second year of the Huangwu era of the Eastern Wu regime during the Three Kingdoms period (223 AD), it is a National 5A-Level Tourist Attraction. Together with Yueyang Tower in Yueyang, Hunan Province, and Tengwang Pavilion in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, it is collectively known as the “Three Famous Towers of Jiangnan” and enjoys the reputation of “a Peerless Scenic Wonder under Heaven.”Modeled after the “Tongzhi Tower” of the Qing Dynasty, the structure rises five stories to a total height of 51.4 meters, with a floor area of 3,219 square meters. Seventy-two cylindrical columns soar from the ground, exuding grandeur and stability, while sixty upturned eaves stretch skyward, evoking the image of a yellow crane taking flight. The roof is covered with more than 100,000 yellow glazed tiles. In addition to Yellow Crane Tower, the scenic area features numerous stone steles and inscriptions, all authentic works by renowned figures throughout history. The site boasts lush greenery, making strolls through the hills particularly pleasant. The completion of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge significantly improved north-south transportation, elevated the standard of bridge construction in China, and served as a major inspiration to the Chinese people, who were then passionately engaged in building a new China through self-reliance and hard work. Consequently, its image was selected for the third series of the Renminbi, which began design in 1958 and was issued starting in April 1962, as an important symbol reflecting the new achievements in socialist construction at that time.

Featuring Republic of China-style architecture as its centerpiece, Han Street is interspersed with modern buildings infused with fashionable elements and European-style structures. As an urban commercial pedestrian street showcasing distinctive Chinese architectural characteristics, Han Street primarily adopts the Republic of China architectural style. Its red-and-gray exposed brick walls, exquisite brick moldings, black-lacquered gates, bronze door knockers, shikumen-style gateways, bluestone pathways, and aged wooden windows create an atmosphere that seems to turn back the clock. Meanwhile, by integrating modern architecture with trendy elements and European-style buildings into the Republic of China-style framework, Han Street achieves a perfect fusion of tradition and modernity. It appeals to young professionals and art enthusiasts alike, housing attractions such as Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, GODIVA chocolate boutiques, bars, music stores, and home furnishing shops, with many renowned fashion brands set to join in the future. This is a place where you’ll feel compelled to lift your camera and capture memories at night. When I think back on Chu River and Han Street, what comes to mind are those beautiful, warm lights.
