On September 9, Wang Hang, CEO of Haodf Online, delivered a keynote address on the platform’s transformation and exploration, as well as its upcoming new product releases. His insights hold significant value for understanding the evolution of internet-based medical consultation platforms. Therefore, VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) is sharing the transcript of Wang Hang’s speech.

Below is the transcript of Wang Hang’s speech:

I (Wang Hang) would like to share our explorations in establishing high-quality medical services within the realm of internet healthcare, detailing our thought process and actions.

As society progresses, our expectations for service quality across all industries continue to rise, and the healthcare sector is no exception. The era when we were merely satisfied with curing diseases has passed. If patients still have to wait an hour to register, another hour to see a doctor, endure further delays for examinations, and ultimately spend only five or six minutes with the physician, such a model fails to meet the public’s growing demands for medical services.

As the incidence and mortality rates of chronic diseases rise, and as these conditions become society’s primary health threat—with the main battleground for disease management shifting from hospitals to patients’ homes—how can physicians provide long-term care to those no longer confined to hospital settings? This challenge necessitates a change in tools, and internet platforms offer an unparalleled solution. Only the internet can extend medical services from the consulting room into patients’ homes, transcending time and geographical barriers. On such platforms, we can also deploy various advanced tools; for instance, patients can remotely report their home-measured blood glucose levels and physical condition to physicians via the internet, who can then deliver guidance, instructions, reminders, and medical advice directly to patients’ homes. All of this is technologically feasible.

Are these technical platforms sufficient? As a platform provider, we face an even more critical imperative: beyond merely offering technological infrastructure, we must devise mechanisms to attract more physicians who deliver high-quality care and to incentivize broader improvements in clinical service practices.

Let me share the new initiatives we have been working on recently. “Haodafu Select” is a concept our team has been contemplating over the past few months. What does “Haodafu Select” mean? Many e-commerce platforms use this term to indicate that users do not need to compare various metrics themselves when shopping; instead, as an experienced platform operator in the industry, we can recommend the optimal choices to users. For Haodafu, we stand from the patient’s perspective and directly recommend the best doctors to them.

We have summarized three key statements:

First, we must select physicians who deliver excellent service quality;

Second, prioritize their recommendation to patients;

Third, establish a highly dynamic mechanism for the rapid updating of preferred provider lists to encourage physicians to continuously improve the quality of their services.

These are our requirements for the product. There are 160,000 physicians with real-name registration and certification on the Haodaifu platform. For patients, however, this total number is not their primary concern; what matters most to them is identifying the physician who is the best fit for their individual needs. Therefore, we should assume the responsibility of assisting patients in making informed choices by prioritizing recommendations for the physicians most suited to each patient’s specific condition. This is a significant responsibility that requires the platform operator to possess the following capabilities:

First, it is necessary to have sufficiently robust data support. This requires a comprehensive understanding of patient feedback on physician services, thorough familiarity with historical service data, and the exclusion of confounding data. Each step entails extensive preparatory work by back-office staff.

Second, a multidimensional approach. In addition to patient feedback, we rigorously evaluate physicians’ backgrounds, including their professional technical competence, reputation within the medical industry, humanistic service orientation, and behavioral style, taking into account a comprehensive range of factors.

After thorough preparation, we recommend to patients brand-name physicians who excel in both clinical expertise and patient reputation!

Finally, we hope to continuously update the platform and encourage more physicians who provide high-quality services to join it.

This is a service we have been developing over the past six months. We aim to establish a recommendation mechanism based on service quality, helping patients make informed choices while ensuring high standards of care. It is a quality-based ranking system that operates from the patient’s perspective, placing patients at the center and recommending high-quality medical services to them.We welcome physicians to proactively apply for the “Preferred Physician” designation. If physicians are willing and capable of delivering high-quality medical services, we encourage them to join our network.

After completing the deployment of preferred physicians, we recommend lists of preferred physicians at various levels and regions—such as national, provincial, and prefectural/city levels—based on the patient’s location. Meanwhile, the platform will conduct real-time monitoring of all online services provided by physicians and implement a “de-listing mechanism.”

Many people argue that physicians should provide more pro bono services. However, our perspective is that only by ensuring “Lei Feng does not suffer losses” can we inspire more “Lei Fengs.” By providing these physicians with more precisely matched cases and enabling their personal brands to grow rapidly and take precedence, we have shaped the core rationale behind our product, Haodaifu Youxuan (Preferred Doctors).

As a platform provider, Haodaifu Online looks beyond technical feasibility, product architecture, and presentation to prioritize the establishment of a mechanism that fosters healthy industry development. This mechanism aims to unite the physicians on the platform, integrating them into a comprehensive ecosystem to drive the entire healthcare sector forward.

“Haodaifu Select” will officially launch on the app on September 19., aiming to bring everyone an updated and better experience.
