In 2017, the global cell therapy industry witnessed two landmark events: In late March, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) accepted the Biologics License Applications (BLAs) for the CAR-T therapies from Novartis and Kite Pharma; in late August, the FDA approved the launch of Kymriah, Novartis’s CAR-T therapy, marking the world’s first approved CAR-T treatment. Following the approval of Novartis’s product, Kite Pharma’s CAR-T therapy is expected to be launched in the second half of this year.
2017, hailed as the inaugural year of commercialized CAR-T therapies, marked only the beginning of what we have witnessed to date. Beyond Novartis and Kite Pharma, companies such as Therapeutics, JUNO, Johnson & Johnson, Fosun Pharma, and GeneChem have all strategically entered this field.
It is reported that there are 380 CAR-T research projects worldwide, with China accounting for 128 of them, positioning China as a key battleground in the global immunotherapy market.
Meanwhile, from September 18 to 22, 2017, Suzhou, China will welcome more than 30 scholars in the field of precision oncology, including tenured professors from Harvard University. They will participate in the 2017 Cold Spring Harbor Asia Conference • Forum on Precision Cancer Biology, engaging in discussions on cellular immunotherapy and sharing cutting-edge discoveries in tumor immunotherapy.

This conference features three major highlights:

James P. Allison
Professor, Department of Immunology, The University of Texas; Executive Director, Immunotherapy Platform, MD Anderson Cancer Center, 2015Lasker Award Winner, Pioneer of Immunotherapy
Lecture Topic: Immune Checkpoint Blockade in Cancer Therapy—New Insights, Opportunities, and Prospects
Dr. James P. Allison is Professor and Chair of the Department of Immunology at The University of Texas, Executive Director of the Immunotherapy Platform at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and holds the Vivian L. Smith Distinguished Chair in Immunology.
Allison's greatest contribution lies inHe discovered the inhibitory effect of CTLA-4 on T cells.Studies have demonstrated that blocking the CTLA-4 signaling pathway significantly enhances T-cell-mediated anti-tumor activity. Building on Allison’s foundational discovery, a monoclonal antibody targeting CTLA-4 was approved by the FDA in 2011 for the treatment of melanoma.
In 2015, the U.S. Lasker Foundation awarded Allison the 2015 Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award.
The Lasker Award is another top-tier prize in the fields of physiology and medicine, second only to the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. To date, more than 300 individuals have received the Lasker Award, among whom 81 have subsequently been awarded the Nobel Prize, soThis award is also regarded as a "bellwether" for the Nobel Prize.。
This time,Allison will serve as the keynote speaker at the conference,And share new insights, opportunities, prospects, and the future of immunotherapy in cancer treatment.
With Allison’s high-profile participation, this Cold Spring Harbor conference has also invited over 30 leading scientists from around the world, spanning fields such as genomics, synthetic biology, and cell biology. By bringing together multidisciplinary expert perspectives, the event offers a comprehensive feast of insights into precision oncology.
