Recently, at the Optics Valley Qingtong Hui Seminar on Compliance in Medical Device Product Design and Development, held at the Optics Valley Entrepreneurship Coffee shop in the Biopharmaceutical Park, experts from Zhizhong Technology, a professional institution based in Optics Valley, engaged in professional exchanges with participating companies and attendees on the theme of “Enhancing Compliance Awareness and Capabilities in Design and Development for Medical Device Companies.”
Experts at the conference introduced that unannounced inspections are surprise supervisory inspections conducted by food and drug regulatory authorities against administrative counterparts without prior notice. Based on the "Measures for Unannounced Inspections of Drugs and Medical Devices" implemented in 2015, the purpose is to standardize the design and development of products by medical device companies, identify issues, manage risks, deter illegal activities, and ensure consumer safety.
Chen Xi, Regulatory Director at Zhizhong Technology, provided an interpretation of the issues exposed during China’s unannounced inspections of medical device manufacturers last year. She revealed that Hubei Province ranked 17th among all provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China, with three companies cited for non-conformities. The most frequently identified non-conformity involved irregular quality management records in the production process, such as unsigned documents, missing dates, and illegible or heavily altered handwriting—issues unrelated to product technology.
During the subsequent seminar session, technical experts including Xu Xinggang and Shi Guoqi engaged in discussions with representatives from over 40 companies—totaling more than 100 attendees—on professional topics such as the standardization of design and development for full-line medical devices, control of development processes, and key operational points at each stage.
