Scientific and sustained diabetes education and management require a well-trained interdisciplinary team to facilitate the transition from “knowledge” to “action” among individuals with diabetes and those at high risk in China, thereby promoting the concept of healthy living.
Dingxiangyuan is continuously strengthening its patient care services, striving to become the first standardized provider of out-of-hospital diabetes management in China.
Diabetes is a disease with a very high incidence rate in China. Relevant data show that there are at least 100 million diagnosed patients, and approximately 400 million individuals are in the prediabetic stage. Currently, the dissemination of systematic health education information on diabetes is extremely slow, while "popular science" knowledge conveyed through various channels is overly complex and even contradictory, leaving the public confused and unsure of how to proceed. As the situation of diabetes prevention and control in China becomes increasingly severe, the importance of diabetes education and management in China is becoming ever more prominent.
To address this challenge and promote the robust interdisciplinary development of diabetes education and management in China, thereby better serving and supporting a larger population of patients with diabetes.On October 17, the Diabetes Education and Management Branch of the Chinese Health Promotion and Education Association was officially established in Beijing, launching comprehensive preparatory work.
Dingxiangyuan formally signed the “Smart Glucose Control, Caring for Health” science popularization project with the newly established branch and officially submitted the “Application for Expert Review of Out-of-Hospital Diabetes Management and Services.”
Huang Zemin, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Health Promotion and Education Association, pointed out:
As one of the “Five Pillars” in diabetes prevention and control, diabetes education and management should take the lead by rapidly and effectively achieving maximal interdisciplinary collaboration.
This is a critical initiative that the Chinese Health Promotion and Education Association should prioritize and advance in response to the challenges posed by diabetes.
At the press conference, Professor Guo Xiaohui of Peking University First Hospital was appointed as Chairperson; Professor Ji Linong of Peking University People’s Hospital, Professor Sun Zilin of Zhongda Hospital Affiliated to Southeast University, Professor Zou Dajin of Changhai Hospital of the Second Military Medical University, Professor Shan Zhongyan of the First Hospital of China Medical University, Director Guo Jianjun of the National Sports Commission’s Center for Integration of Medicine and Sports, Professor Chen Wei of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Professor Zhang Qiu of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, and Director Zhao Fang of China-Japan Friendship Hospital under the Ministry of Health were appointed as Vice-Chairpersons. Additionally, Mr. Luo Gang from the Mobile Health Research Institute of Health News was appointed as Part-time Secretary, and Ms. Gao Lingling was appointed as Full-time Secretary.
Professor Guo Xiaohui pointed out that diabetes is a lifestyle-related disease, and greater involvement from non-medical professionals is warranted. The branch will focus its future efforts on the following four areas.
Promote informatization and socialization;
Promote the standardization and normalization of tiered healthcare services;
Promote the establishment and improvement of training and management systems;
Promote the formulation and adjustment of national prevention and control strategies through interdisciplinary specialized research.
All stakeholders must strive to foster an environment that genuinely transforms the future of diabetes, thereby alleviating the substantial burden it imposes on our society and healthcare systems.
Professor Guo Xiaohui also announced the initial phase of the science popularization project plan, which includes two components: first, undertaking work related to the diabetes section of the Healthy China APP, commissioned by Health News; and second, launching a cross-sector collaboration with DXY for the dissemination of educational videos.
Professor Ji Linong emphasizes that scientific and sustained diabetes education and management require a well-trained interdisciplinary team to facilitate the transition from “knowledge” to “action” among Chinese patients with diabetes and high-risk populations, thereby promoting the concept of healthy living.
The establishment of the branch aims to continuously explore educational models and management tools tailored to the Chinese population, strengthen international and domestic cooperation and exchanges, and promote the development of diabetes education in China through innovative practices by educators.
At the press conference, Professor Guo Xiaohui and Zhang Jing, Vice President of DXY, officially signed a cooperation agreement for a science popularization project. Meanwhile, Mr. Zhang, representing DXY, formally submitted the “Application for Expert Review of Out-of-Hospital Diabetes Management and Services” to the branch committee, inviting its expert committee to conduct a comprehensive review and evaluation of DXY’s Out-of-Hospital Diabetes Management Service Center in terms of service processes, standards, and content, with the aim of becoming China’s first standardized out-of-hospital diabetes management service provider.
Zhang Jing provided a detailed introduction to the “Smart Diabetes Management, Caring for Health” initiative. This phased science popularization project, conducted in collaboration between the Branch and DXY, is primarily designed to deliver educational content to physicians and patients in the field of diabetes, reaching specific target audiences through internet channels. At the press conference, Zhang Jing also unveiled the first batch of sample science popularization videos, laying the foundation for the sustained production of such educational content.
As China’s largest social networking platform for physicians, DXY has been committed to building a user-centric service ecosystem over the past 17 years. Zhang Jing pointed out, “DXY believes that only by serving physicians well can we better serve more patients.”
DXY is committed to providing patients with professional and trustworthy health care services. In an online environment where it is difficult to distinguish the authenticity of health information, DXY consistently adheres to the principle that health education should be delivered by professionals. Therefore, DXY strictly controls content and service quality, collaborating with medical societies and experts to deliver high-quality, reliable patient education and management services.
This time, the science popularization pilot project jointly launched by DXY and the Society for Diabetes Patient Education and Management has integrated hospitals, experts, and physicians in the field of diabetes:
On one hand, promote the concepts and methods of diabetes patient education to primary healthcare workers, and provide tiered knowledge dissemination to physicians at different levels.
On the other hand, internet-based platforms help provide diabetic patients with continuous health education and management services outside of hospital settings.
Li Tiantian, Chairman of DXY, emphasized that the essence of healthcare is to create a better life for people. As the healthcare industry pertains to human life and health, DXY has remained true to its original mission over the past 17 years in addressing the needs of patients and the general public.
In the era of rapidly evolving mobile internet, DXY, as a connector of industry value, has remained committed to fostering win-win outcomes for doctors, patients, and partners by continuously creating value for them. While consistently serving physicians, DXY has intensified its focus on patient services in recent years.
Li Tiantian pointed out that the optimal application scenarios for mobile health are primary healthcare services and chronic disease management, as it can provide integrated and continuous solutions. DXY collaborates with medical societies, experts, physicians, enterprises, and other stakeholders to leverage internet platforms for innovating disease education and chronic disease management models, thereby delivering more comprehensive and trustworthy professional services to patients.
