According to VCBeat, on December 1, 2017, Guangzhou KingMed Diagnostics Group, a pioneer and leader in China’s third-party medical testing industry, held the inauguration ceremony of the KingMed Academic Committee and the KingMed Academic Reporting Conference at its headquarters on Guangzhou International Bio Island.
The KingMed Diagnostics Academic Committee, led by four academicians—Zhong Nanshan, Zeng Yitao, Chen Runsheng, and Hou Fanfan—and comprising 23 top-tier experts from home and abroad in the fields of laboratory medicine, pathology, and clinical practice, has been officially established. Reportedly, this represents the largest and most multidisciplinary team of top-tier academicians and experts ever assembled by a medical laboratory testing institution in China to date.
As China further deepens its healthcare reforms and implements the “Healthy China 2030” strategy, Guangzhou is actively striving to secure a leading position in the IAB sectors (next-generation information technology, artificial intelligence, and biomedicine) to enhance the global competitiveness of its biomedical technological innovation. KingMed Diagnostics, a leading enterprise in the third-party medical testing industry, has established an Academic Committee composed of top-tier experts led by academicians. This initiative will further dedicate efforts to the research and development, clinical translation, and industrialization of cutting-edge international technologies in laboratory medicine and pathology. Additionally, it will vigorously promote the development and application of biobank construction, health big data exploitation, and AI-assisted diagnosis, collectively advancing scientific and technological progress in China’s medical testing industry.
On December 1, KingMed Diagnostics announced the establishment of its Academic Committee. Zhong Nanshan, an expert in respiratory diseases and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, serves as Chairman of the Committee. Zeng Yitao, a medical geneticist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Chen Runsheng, a bioinformatician and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Hou Fanfan, a renowned nephrologist in China and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, serve as Advisors to the Committee. Liang Yaoming, Chairman and CEO of KingMed Diagnostics, serves as Vice Chairman. In addition, 18 top experts from related fields, including laboratory medicine, pathology, and clinical practice, serve as members of the Committee.
It is reported that this represents the largest and most multidisciplinary top-tier academic team ever assembled in China’s medical laboratory industry, in terms of the number of academicians and experts recruited. “Members of the KingMed Medical Academic Committee are either renowned international experts or authoritative figures holding positions at or above Vice Chairperson of specialty committees under the Chinese Medical Association or the Chinese Medical Doctor Association in relevant domestic fields,” said Yu Shihui, Secretary-General of the KingMed Medical Academic Committee and Chief Scientific Officer of KingMed Diagnostics. The committee members span multiple disciplines, including clinical laboratory medicine, genetic and molecular pathology, clinical biochemistry, respiratory diseases, genetic disorders, nephrology, hematology, infectious diseases, genomic big data, and in vitro diagnostics (IVD), thereby covering KingMed’s current and future business areas. Moreover, the committee emphasizes a balanced integration of domestic and international expertise, with both Chinese and foreign experts represented in each field.
As the nation further deepens healthcare reform and implements the “Healthy China 2030” strategy, Guangzhou has also proposed a five-year plan to establish itself as a major hub for biomedical innovation in China and a globally influential center for the biopharmaceutical and healthcare industry. KingMed Diagnostics, a high-tech service enterprise rooted in Guangdong and serving the entire country, successfully listed on the Main Board of the Shanghai Stock Exchange on September 8, marking a significant milestone in its development. These opportunities have necessitated KingMed to implement a more long-term strategic transformation.
Liang Yaoming, Chairman and CEO of KingMed Diagnostics, stated that the company has established an Academic Committee to bring together a group of authoritative experts in relevant fields. By leveraging this “brain trust,” KingMed aims to explore new models, grasp the overall trends in the development of medical diagnostic service technologies, coordinate and promote innovative development in related areas and directions, continuously focus on key sectors, refine scientific objectives, and provide strategic academic guidance for KingMed Diagnostics. In particular, the committee will offer macro-strategic research and top-level decision-making support in formulating important technical development plans, laying out or adjusting major medical technology fields, and allocating critical technical resources. It will also support KingMed Diagnostics in achieving the integration of multidisciplinary technology platforms with a disease- and clinical-oriented approach.
Meanwhile, it provides new research methodologies and perspectives for establishing foundational technical support systems, fostering innovation-driven mechanisms, facilitating cross-disciplinary collaborative R&D, and developing application and commercialization frameworks. It actively offers strategic recommendations in areas such as discipline development, theoretical research, and service domains, guiding KingMed Diagnostics to continuously innovate in medical laboratory testing and pathological technologies, explore new models for healthcare service growth, and propel its technological innovation to new heights. Collectively, these efforts contribute to advancing national medical laboratory testing and pathological diagnostic services, as well as promoting technological progress in the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) industry, healthcare big data, and AI-assisted diagnosis.
According to reports, with this top-tier academic committee, along with its extensive service network and high-quality testing capabilities, KingMed Diagnostics will strive to build a “Testing+” ecosystem. On one hand, it will continue to focus on its core medical testing business; on the other hand, it will leverage in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products as a strategic entry point to expand upstream in the industry chain. The company is committed to in-depth exploration of the research and development, clinical translation, and industrialization of cutting-edge international technologies in laboratory medicine and pathology. Meanwhile, it will vigorously promote the development and application of biobanks, health big data, and artificial intelligence-assisted diagnosis.
