On December 6, 2017, VCBeat learned that Medlinker, China’s leading real-name physician platform, announced it had secured RMB 400 million in its Series C financing round. The round was strategically led by CEC Health Fund, with participation from Huaxing New Economy Fund and existing investors Tencent and Sequoia Capital.

CEC Health Fund was established by China Electronics Data Service Co., Ltd. (“CEC Data”) to cultivate an industrial ecosystem for healthcare big data, with CEC Data serving as the national team in this sector. Medlinker and CEC Data will become strategic partners of significant stature in the field of data services, jointly exploring the commercial application of medical data. China Renaissance served as the exclusive financial advisor for this financing round.

Medlinker was founded in 2014. In August of the same year, it secured angel-round funding jointly invested by Ceyuan Ventures and PreAngel. In February 2015, it raised millions of U.S. dollars in Series A funding from Sequoia Capital China. In September 2015, it closed a $40 million Series B round led by Tencent, with Yunfeng Capital participating as a co-investor.

Currently, Medlinker boasts over 430,000 real-name verified physicians and offers a suite of products including the Medlinker APP and the Medlinker Cloud Open Platform. It is dedicated to helping Chinese doctors enhance their academic proficiency and professional value. As China’s leading real-name physician platform, Medlinker leverages its extensive and high-quality physician resources to collaborate with medical institutions, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, and insurance enterprises. Guided by the development strategy of “One Platform, Three Connections,” Medlinker works with each partner to co-create social and commercial value in China’s healthcare sector.

As a key capital link in the industrial ecosystem layout of China Electronics Data’s healthcare big data sector, the CE Health Fund focuses on investing in fields radiating from the healthcare big data industry, including artificial intelligence, fintech, biopharmaceuticals, and internet healthcare. Leveraging the advantages of China Electronics Data as the national team in healthcare big data, the CE Health Fund facilitates deep cooperation with Medlinker in areas such as supplemental health insurance, data analytics for pharmaceutical R&D (CRO), and single-disease application services based on medical data. Notably, both parties will prioritize piloting provincial-level Internet Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) projects. By integrating the development of new commercial insurance products and the implementation of family doctor policies, these initiatives aim to break down barriers in primary healthcare, promote the rational allocation of medical resources and the healthy development of the national healthcare system, and meet the healthcare service needs of the general public.

Wang Shirui, Founder and CEO of Medlinker, stated, “We extend our sincere gratitude to both new and existing shareholders for their unwavering trust in Medlinker over the past three years. Through this transaction, Medlinker has introduced the CEC Health Fund as a strategic investor, enabling comprehensive collaboration between the two parties in areas such as medical data. The CEC Health Fund will also serve as a strategic advisor to Medlinker, providing valuable and constructive insights for each step of our future strategic planning. This investment represents a milestone for Medlinker, playing a crucial role in enhancing our ability to anticipate and align with national healthcare policies.”

Zhou Liang, Managing Director and Head of Private Equity Financing at China Renaissance, stated, “This marks another successful collaboration between China Renaissance and Medlinker following the Series B financing round. After three years of rapid development, Medlinker has successfully built an omnichannel physician platform integrating online and offline services, and has engaged in deep cooperation and strategic layout with upstream enterprises. In this transaction, Medlinker has introduced CE Health Fund as a key strategic investor. The two parties will comprehensively align in areas such as medical data. We believe that Medlinker will further enhance its business ecosystem and strengthen its competitive moat, emerging as a new-generation leader in the healthcare sector.”
