VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned, January 20, 2018, atTech Gala——At the CCTV 2017 Annual Science and Technology Innovation Figure Awards Ceremony, Zhu Rui, Associate Researcher at the Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Director of the OCT and Biomedical Imaging Center, was honored with the “2017 Science and Technology Innovation Figure” Award.

Other recipients of this honor include Academician Yao Tandong from the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Professor Ma Jing from Harbin Institute of Technology; Su Quanke, Chief Engineer of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge; and brothers Chen Tianshi and Chen Yunji, founders of the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Cambricon Technologies.

Zhu Rui is a typical representative of the team at the Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics (XIOPM) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, dedicated to the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements. Over the past few years, Zhu Rui has led his team to successfully develop a projection-type infrared vein imager, achieving total sales of nearly RMB 40 million, with products sold both domestically and internationally. On February 15, 2015, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited XIOPM and specifically experienced this product.

In addition, Zhu Rui led the Vivolight medical technology startup team to develop China's firstThe first interventional optical coherence tomography (OCT) system for clinical use has broken the import monopoly on this product, achieved domestic production of this high-end imaging device, and reduced medical costs and expenses. The product has currently entered the clinical trial phase for medical device registration. It is expected to obtain the product registration certificate in early 2019, at which point it is poised to become the first interventional OCT imaging system in China to successfully secure such certification.

With the growing number of patients suffering from complex diseases, particularly given the persistently high incidence of cardiovascular disorders, diagnostic and therapeutic technologies such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) have become essential to addressing public health challenges, with intravascular imaging playing an increasingly critical role.

Against this backdrop, Vivolight has leveraged its years of technological expertise and joined forces with Harvard Medical School and the Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics to deeply cultivate the field of interventional imaging diagnosis and treatment, resulting in the development ofWorld’s Smallest Endoscope Technology: Achieving a Catheter Diameter of 0.86 mm with Resolution 10 Times Higher Than Current Ultrasound Technology, attracting significant attention from the industry.

Receiving the 2017 Science and Technology Innovation Figure Award also reflects the recognition by the state and the scientific community of Zhu Rui and Vivolight’s technology.

It is reported that the Science and Technology Gala is a national-level annual science and technology extravaganza meticulously crafted by China Central Television (CCTV). Guided by the concept of “a grand event for the scientific community and a gathering for scientists,” it aims to review the year’s scientific and technological achievements, showcase major progress and accomplishments in China’s science and technology sector, highlight exemplary scientists and teams, and promote scientific achievements as well as the innovative spirit of the broader scientific and technological workforce. The gala honors individuals and teams in scientific and technological innovation who have demonstrated outstanding performance and international influence, striving to establish itself as the “Oscars” of China’s science and technology community.
