In 2017, the total volume of medical aesthetic procedures in China exceeded 10 million, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 40%. China’s medical aesthetics market has surpassed Brazil to become the second-largest consumer market globally. Furthermore, the medical aesthetics industry has emerged as the fourth-largest service sector in China, following real estate, automotive, and tourism, indicating substantial future growth potential.

However, although China’s medical aesthetics market currently features a diverse and competitive landscape, it remains plagued by significant irregularities. Both practitioners and consumers share a common aspiration: to return to rationality and pursue beauty safely. Information asymmetry and opacity constitute a major barrier constraining the development of China’s medical aesthetics industry. Due to the lack of standardized marketing and operational strategies among public tertiary hospitals with plastic surgery departments, consumers—while aware that they “should seek care at Grade A tertiary hospitals”—find no authoritative references specifically within the medical aesthetics sector. Consequently, they are forced to rely on directive marketing advertisements as their primary selection criteria. The difficulty in verifying the qualifications of medical aesthetics institutions creates opportunities for unlicensed entities, thereby substantially increasing the risks associated with cosmetic procedures.

Therefore, operational management and brand marketing have become two key strategies for high-quality medical aesthetic institutions to break through in fierce competition. From April 27 to 28, 2018, the Internet Branch of the Chinese Association of Plastics and Aesthetics, in joint organization with Shanghai Wanyi Exhibition Management Co., Ltd., will host the "2018 International Medical Aesthetics Industry Innovation Forum (IMCI)" at the Sheraton Shanghai Waigaoqiao Hotel. Over 600 senior representatives from upstream medical aesthetic suppliers, hospital representatives, private medical aesthetic and plastic surgery institutions, financial and insurance regulatory bodies, consumer finance companies, insurance enterprises, medical aesthetic O2O platforms, and medical aesthetic marketing agencies will gather at IMCI 2018. They will engage in discussions centered on four major themes: "Medical Aesthetic Operational Management and Industry Development," "New Technologies and New Developments in Medical Aesthetics," "Consumer Finance and Insurance in Medical Aesthetics," and "Medical Aesthetic Marketing in the Era of 'Internet Plus'." Together, they will explore how to seize new opportunities amid consumption upgrades and jointly build a new ecosystem for the medical aesthetics industry.
