A study conducted by Mydentist among 2,000 UK households reveals significant public confusion regarding the impact of food on dental health, with particularly poor awareness of sugar content in foods.
20% of parents believe that fruit smoothies are beneficial for children’s teeth, while another 19% of parents consider sippy cup beverages—despite often containing high levels of added sugars and additives—to be a safe choice.

According to Mydentist’s 2017 data, the company operated a total of 654 clinics as of December 31, 2017, compared with 677 clinics as of December 31, 2016.
Excluding the 12 clinics that have already closed this year, an additional 26 clinics have been classified as “held for sale,” and the company currently has no plans for further acquisitions.
The closure of multiple Mydentist clinics has caused significant difficulties for local residents in accessing dental care. In Gwynedd, nearly 4,500 patients have lost their only National Health Service (NHS) dentist, which was the sole private healthcare provider in the area.
Peter Ward, Chief Executive of the British Dental Association (BDA), stated that a significant share of UK dental practices remains in the hands of corporate clinics. Steve Williams, Clinical Director at Mydentist, commented,The clinic struggled to recruit new doctors for two years, which was why he decided to close the Wales clinic.。
Now, as Peter Ward points out, dentistry is not the only sector attracting capital; ophthalmology is also highly favored by investors due to its greater scalability. However, in the ophthalmology sector, clinical operations have a far smaller impact on enterprises than marketing activities.
In the field of dentistry, the largest portion of patient payments goes to clinically trained professionals rather than to flashy marketing campaigns.
So, to put it bluntly, if Mydentist cannot find dentists, the clinic will not be able to operate. A large number of members of the British Dental Association have expressed a preference for staying in practices owned by practicing dentists rather than chain clinics owned by corporations or investment firms.
For patients, the desire is to maintain a long-term relationship with their own dentist, ensuring continuity of care, rather than establishing a connection with a particular chain brand. If dental enterprises or chain brands fail to achieve this objective, they will struggle to attain sustainable long-term results.
