The Grants4Apps project, an open innovation initiative focused on the healthcare sector, originated in Berlin, Germany. It began its global rollout in 2016. As a key destination for this global expansion, Bayer China launched the “Bayer Start-up Program Shanghai” under the Grants4Apps umbrella in Shanghai.
This year's event isGrants4Apps “Bayer G4A Shanghai” Phase III still consists of the “Incubator Program” and the “Dealmaker Program.”
Unlike in previous years:The “Incubator Program” officially opened for applications on April 9, 2018, with the submission deadline set for May 31, 2018. The “Dealmaker Program,” by contrast, will run throughout 2018, during which Bayer will periodically issue business challenges to Chinese innovative enterprises via the official Grants4Apps website. We encourage you to stay tuned and participate actively.

This year, Bayer will continue to provide the following to the selected startups:Support in Four Areas:
88 Days in Bayer
Startup Team (3–5 individuals) will be invited to Citigroup Tower in Lujiazui Financial Center, Shanghai, China, to undergo an 88-day program of training and mentoring (July 9, 2018–October 4, 2018). The training content will include, but not be limited to, business model development, market analysis, and investment strategy formulation.
Bayer will provide customized courses based on the actual needs of the selected participants. A mentorship team composed of senior executives from Bayer China will offer professional guidance to the selected teams, comprehensively assisting startups in resolving various challenging issues encountered or anticipated during their development.
1 Demo day
DurationFollowing the 88-day project training and mentoring program, each entrepreneurial team will present their products and business development achievements to the public on Demo Day. Bayer partner companies, investors, fellow entrepreneurs, major media outlets, and Bayer employees will be present to learn about the startup projects, thereby enhancing the industry visibility of these initiatives.
360° Interpersonal Relationship Achievement
InDuring the “Incubator Program,” innovative project teams can engage in close exchanges with Bayer China personnel, investors, healthcare experts, and other entrepreneurs to build their professional networks, integrate industry resources, and promote project development.
In previous incubation programs, selected participants“Huashengmi” leveraged the network connections accumulated during the “Incubator Program” to secure a spot in the Dubai 100 training camp and obtain financing. In addition to securing funding and partnering with DXY, “Ruijia” gained numerous partners through this “Incubator Program,” embarking on a new chapter of growth.

Selection Criteria: The Influence and Developmental Aspirations of Innovative Enterprises’ Team Structure, Performance, and Overall Vision
Selection Process and Results: Bayer will select the top eight innovative companies from all applicants on May 31, 2018, and engage in further discussions with them. The final three winners will be announced on July 9 and invited to join Bayer’s China office (Citigroup Tower in Shanghai’s Lujiazui Financial Center).
The Dealmaker Program is a challenge-based initiative through which Bayer engages innovative companies that align with its business challenges—specifically, startups that have completed Series A or B financing rounds, or are more mature. This year, Bayer will continue to issue business challenges to Chinese innovators on an irregular basis via the Grants4Apps official website (i.e., the application portal), focusing on critical pain points and difficulties in the healthcare industry. Bayer encourages all eligible innovative enterprises to actively participate.

Selection Criteria: Market pull, prior sales records, company background, financing, business model, and overview of the commercial partnership team
Selection Process: Innovative enterprises participating in the “Dealmaker Program” will engage in in-depth business exchanges with Bayer. During this period, Bayer’s business experts will conduct thorough research and discussions with these innovative enterprises to explore potential areas of collaboration, ensuring that they are fully prepared prior to their presentations in the program.
Selection Results: Following in-depth one-on-one discussions with the relevant Bayer business leads, the selected innovative enterprises will sign a letter of intent for collaboration with Bayer.
